Lens in the eye focuses light on the retina. Opacities of the lens are called cataract. They may be present at birth or occur due to injury but the most common variety is related to age (Senile Cataract). This is the most common cause of visual disability in the aged population.

Phacoemulsification and implantation of a foldable Intraocular Lens: It is a Micro incision technique of cataract surgery where in an ultrasound probe breaks the cataract into tiny pieces and sucks them out. If a foldable implant is inserted the incision size is smaller (2.8 - 3.0 mm) as compared to an approximately 5 mm incision to accommodate a non-foldable lens. Both incisions are self-sealing and need no stitches.
